Weekly Grammar Review

This page will fill you in on what your child will be learning in grammar. Your child will learn a new grammar rule or review already taught rules each week. They will have a test review each Thursday, and will take their test on Friday.

  August 30 - September 3

This week, our focus is on subjects and predicates. Last year, your child may have talked about "naming" parts and "telling" parts. We are using the words "subjects" and "predicates" in second grade. The subject of a sentence tells who or what the sentence is about. The predicate describes the action in the sentence.

EX: The firefighter saved the lady from the building.

Subject- The firefighter
Predicate - saved the lady from the building

Please practice this week by helping your child make up sentences and having them name the subjects and predicates. If you would like any practice work, I'll be more than happy to send something home for your child.

*We are also talking about using commas in dates. For example, have your child practice writing dates, using the comma where it belongs.
